I'm positive I'm not the first to openly comment, based on a few previous outings and numerous rehashes of older works, that this is a band that might want to consider hanging up their studs, inverted pentagrams and leather wristbands lest they release an audio travesty that may taint their legacy and the impact they've left on the metal scene. Case in point, one of their most famous tracks (complete with the hellish cacophony of a chainsaw happily gnawing on the hinges of a production studio's door) is incidentally also the name of a genre more often than not associated with cold climates, disgruntled bearded fellows with a penchant for wearing alabaster makeup and the occasional barbequing of an ancient place of worship (or two). If you are unable to name the specific track in question that gave this unforeseen genre its moniker, you should probably leave now because odds are the family pet is more deserved of the esteemed title of metalhead.
It should be common knowledge that the only original member left is Cronos, although in the past both he and Mantas have left to pursue solo projects. The original three (alongside Abaddon - drums) reunited again to record material under the 'original' Venom moniker in 1995 (but more on that later, stay tuned to the site). Various lineup changes have plagued the band since its original lineup (originally Guillotine in ‘79) dating back to the NWOBHM era (late 70's, very early 80's). Is this the lineup that might lead them back into the good graces and the welcoming arms of the metal fold and garner rocketing sales with future releases? Who knows?! One thing's for certain though very few bands have lasted this long and had such an influential impact on acts as well known as Slayer (has anyone heard of them?) among others in the upper echelon of the metal world that this act can boast of.
But I digress, onwards…
*On a sidenote Feind quite enjoyed '08's Hell (listen here)
*Support the band by picking this release up. I for one am very excited to see what the future heralds.
