Paradise Lost vibe with an enjoyable progginess ala Between the Buried and Me thrown in for good measure. More relaxing than the first track Reeling proves that NV is more than adept at utilizing a stable full of styles to great effect in an ever changing tide of notes which is beyond impressive. The final track, Choked At The Roots, also manages to lull you into a false sense of security only to then kick you in the teeth. Staggeringly powerful it is another outstanding track to conclude my first NV experience.
Surprisingly this LP (though a 3-song album is generally considered an Ep but for this one’s length) hasn't resorted to anything too radical and/or experimental, which personally annoys the ever living crap outta me, instead choosing to keep melody, discernable riffs and tempo changes composed in such a way to keep each and every track fresh. The result is an album you will want to return to again and again.
Stop what you are doing, grab this release, and prepare to melt into a myriad landscape of musical dimensions, when finally rising from its depths you will only thirst for one thing... another plunge.
It deserves more than another spin, several in fact, and don't worry there's something for every taste found here, unless of course your taste is Country or Rap… then you're fucked! You have found yourself at the wrong party, the door is that a' way.
SPIN IT IN THE PIT!!!
