Pierre Laube is the brainchild behind this sound and the mesmerizing style incorporating slow paced bludgeoning riffs, synth melancholy and sweeping soundscapes of grief and sadness. A myriad of Influence ranges from across the Doom Wilderness with standout passages similar to styles displayed by varied acts including (but not limited to) My Dying Bride, October Tide, Mourning Beloveth and November Doom.
Doomed however, have managed to complete what many acts haven’t - a successful and seamless meshing of death and doom so impressively crafted it’s hard to know how to ‘place’ their overall style, at once slow and moody in the next mid paced and melodic (The Triumph – Spit is a great example of this).
There’s no question as to the appeal showcasing talents from across the metal arena (guests include 11th Hour/ Hail of Bullets musician Ed Warby and Doom: VS / Draconian’s Johan Ericson) it more than has the allure to span a wide netting of fans ranging from Gothic to melodic death.
Incorporating heavier elements this is a release that embodies what’s possible when one genre experiments without once forgetting the ‘tried and true’ structural aspects and fundamentals of damned impressive ‘epic’ Doom. Your collection will never forgive you if you don’t add this gem!

The Howling Void though offering up little in the way of vocals, however what is heard is very effective in adding to the aura, gets high marks and praise for instead choosing to concentrate on somewhat progressive, sorrowful instrumentation for emotion and atmosphere. And it works!
Far from being what one might consider typical doom this is more on the ‘funeral’ side of the fence (sans the growling that often goes along with) similar in style, at times, to instrumental Amorphis and mellower tracks courtesy of Novembers Doom.
An effective slab of doom that has the power and presence to take you from your everyday worries to plant you instead in a landscape of emotion and beauty.
