Welcome Metalheads! This may be the best death metal match up I'll ever get to write about at least for this year. Hold on to your heardrums, this one will blow you away!
After hearing the new Centinex album I knew before the end of the first track that I'd be sharing it with all of you (I also immediately sent it to my friend Buke of the MetalHeads Podcast). So I could have just reviewed it all on its own but I like sharing different flavors here for comparison's sake but I couldn't put it up against just any other death metal album, no, for it to even be a battle I needed something else incredible (and preferably not from Sweden) so in order to do so I have to jump the gun here by quite a lot. Though I've had Warfather's upcoming album for a few weeks, it doesn't come out until September! Since I can share some of it with you it was the only album I could put up against Centinex for a fair fight. So strap on those headphones or they'll get blown right off your damn head... Let's Fight!

Hungry for a new (actually good) Morbid Angel album? Sorry, we'll probably never get another one now that David Vincent has gone *gulp* country! Thankfully Steve Tucker hasn't and his new creation Warfather is the result. Their debut album Orchestrating The Apocalypse in 2014 was criticized mainly for its poor production quality so what did Warfather do? They just went out and hired probably the best producer working in death metal today and Tucker's former Morbid Angel bandmate, Hate Eternal's Eric Rutan! The result is an album I've already heard some proclaim as a contender for best album of the year or at the very least the best death metal album of the year. I have to say those accolades aren't off the mark at all. This is an excellent album from the first note to the last. Rather than sounding like Morbid Angel 2.o Warfather sound more like Obituary meets Hate Eternal and the result is fantastic! The Grey Eminence is nine heavy, pummeling old school death metal tracks that sound modern, not dated in the slightest. The above track, Headless Men Can No Longer Speak, is a great representation of the album but does nothing to tell you just how heavy this album is. For how heavy this one gets you need to skip to Heedless Servant because... DAMN! Best album of the year? Only time will tell but it deserves to be in contention that is certain.

After about a decade hiatus Centinex stormed back on the death metal scene unexpectedly in 2014 with the awesome album Redeeming Filth (Moist Purple Skin is a track I still listen to often). I hadn't seen news that they had a new album forthcoming this year or it would have been one of my most anticipated. The album does not disappoint in the slightest. Finally a Swedish death metal band who don't just worship at the altar of Entombed! Redeeming Filth was a solid album but Doomsday Rituals crushes it! These ten songs are not only heavy and brutal but they're fucking catchy as all hell. Yes, you read that correctly these are catchy death metal songs, two things that don't often go together. Flick your Bic and bang that fucking head! Timely breakdowns accentuate the already catchy riffs & choruses making this a death metal album that sticks in your head like those annoying pop songs seem to do only this is brutal fucking death metal! If you aren't singing along with the chorus of Generation of Flies before the end of the song then you're doing it wrong! The great thing is that you'll be doing the same with just about every song on this album. Not in love yet? All you need to do is look at the tracklist with titles like Dismemberment Supreme and Death Decay Murder (great fucking song there!) and you'l need this album in your collection and why not pick up Redeeming Filth while you're at it! This one will be a contender for my top album of the year, I just can't get enough of it. I can't find anything about this album not to love. It's heavy as balls, groove filled and completely fucking brutal! Get it now or else!

Honestly, this one is a lot closer than it looks as both of these albums will be in contention come the end of the year. Right now Centinex has their hooks buried deep in my brain but you never know what way it can swing when all is said and done. One thing for certain is that it seems most aren't overlooking Warfather but I think some are overlooking Centinex, don't overlook it. I'm telling you Doomsday Rituals in not just one of the best death metal albums of the year, it's one of the best albums period. Check them both out, you can pick Centinex up now and as soon as pre-orders are available for Warfather I'll update this with a link. These are two albums you most definitely need in your collection if you want to call yourself a metalhead!
