Welcome horror and Scribbler fans! Want to see Scribblers’ Cult & Feind in print side by side? Want it for free? Sure you do and you can very easily! Read on friends!
So if you already subscribe to the Dark Deeds newsletter from Dark Chapter Press then last week you received a link to a free download of Flashes In The Dark: Halloween Special 2015. DCP may make it available on Amazon for a very low price but you can still get your copy for free just by signing up for the Dark Deeds newsletter. That’s right it’s free! Is that everyone’s favorite word? It’s pretty high on The Scribblers’ list I can tell you that. Cult and I have been competing in the flash fiction contests from DCP for the last several months and while we haven’t been named the overall winners in any of them yet we have been in the running and may have some of our work published in the future as well. If you’re concerned about being bombarded with spam if you sign up with DCP then let me put your mind at ease, you won’t be. The newsletter gets emailed to you once a month and nothing else gets sent other than an occasional book announcement in between which has happened all of, I believe, once so far and I’ve been a subscriber for about a year now. It takes all of about ten seconds to sign up and you’ll receive the Halloween Special ebook containing both my and Cult’s zombie tales under Team Basnett. If you hadn’t looked prior to now the Halloween flash fiction contest was a little different one with all registered writers being assigned to one of three teams with three different themes: Zombies, Vampires or Werewolves. Eight tales were selected from each team which were collected into this special ebook. These are 1,000 word or less (about 2 pages) tales so it makes for a quick read for you. Cult and I are proud to have had our work selected alongside 22 other awesome tales from 22 other excellent horror writers. This is Cult’s first published work so congratulate him by getting yours free today!
Aside from the ebook I am participating in Dark Chapter Press’ November/December novel writing contest. I have been meaning to finish the novel I started quite some time ago and this contest was the push I needed to complete it. When I first began writing a couple of years ago my only goal was to see if I could complete a coherent story, I did. My goal then shifted to seeing if anyone would enjoy what it was I had written. I sent it off to a few people and low & behold they did so I kept writing. The goal then shifted to trying to build a little bit of an audience. This was accomplished (the start of it anyway) when I submitted a story to Horror-Writers.net and they posted it on their site. Coincidentally that is how Cult and I met and began talking becoming fast friends. My next goal was to complete the collection of what I now know are mostly novellas, I did. Then the goal turned to getting published. I’m still sitting on the 8 or 9 tales contained in my collection but Dark Chapter Press was interested in one of them, Hell Awaits, which was published in Kill For A Copy which came out a few months ago. I also have another short story set to be published in another DCP anthology called KIDS very soon. So the next goal is to finish my novel and hopefully get it published whether DCP likes it and decides to do so or if I have to shop it around elsewhere. That part is out of my hands, all I can do is write the best story I can. I can tell you it contains some of the nastiest things I’ve ever written that, if I did my job right, will have you shocked, disgusted and squirming in your seat!
Coinciding with trying to finish my first novel I have also been asked by the very awesome editor Rob McEwan to write a couple of articles for the DCP website to go along with the novel writing contest. While this contest is not associated with the official NaNoWriMo obviously it’s intended to coincide with that annual writers challenge. I know some of our writer friends have signed up for NaNoWriMo and I hope you sign up for DCP’s novel competition as well. You have until the end of November to register and pay the small entry fee (£5 or about $8 US) and then you have until December 31st to submit your completed and fairly polished manuscript. I’m attempting to complete my full novel over the next 2 weeks since I’m home alone with nothing else to do so that I have the full month of December to put the full spit shine on it. I have sent DCP an article on editing that hopefully our writer friends will find helpful (I’ll let you know when it’s posted) then I plan on writing one or two more that hopefully you’ll find helpful as well but the subjects of those I’m still working on.
That’s about all I have for now I believe. Take a few seconds to sign up for the Dark Deeds newsletter to get your free copy of the Halloween Special which includes Cult’s tale, A Dinner Invite, and my tale, Tamed Brute. Both of our tales are kind of out of the box zombie tales that we very much hope you’ll enjoy along with the 22 other tales included in this anthology. I wish any of you luck if you’re participating in NaNoWriMo and/or DCP’s contest and hopefully once it’s all said and done I’ll have something good to announce to all of you… at least I hope so. I have about 5 or 6 more novels in my head dying to come out but first I need to get the first one completed! Stay wicked friends and we’ll keep you updated on any and all new developments with our writing. Don’t forget to stop by S Mart and pick up Kill For A Copy, Christopher Zisi’s book of horror poetry – Escaping From The Institute, and Kevin’s free ebook A Lurker Among The Dead! When and if DCP puts Flashes In The Dark: Halloween Special on Amazon I’ll provide a link in S Mart to that as well. Enjoy the Horror friends!
