Welcome Horror & Metal lovers! Sorry for the extra long hiatus but we’re back and we’ve got tons to bring your way! Here’s a little catch up on what we’ve been up to and a little of what we’ll be bringing your way.
So we’ve been on a little hiatus lately. It lasted a little longer than I planned but that’s just how things go. While we were off I got a ton of work done but not all of it was writing. Everything was in disarray as I prepared to move and help Cult do a bunch of home improvements. Of course, the biggest pain in the ass was of my own making when I fucked up with a little kitchen grease fire. Luckily the damage wasn’t too extensive so with a little elbow grease (quite a bit more than a little to be honest) it barely even looks like anything more happened than maybe some burnt toast or something and yes, the firestarter jokes have been in full effect for a couple of weeks. I’m happily pretty well settled in to my new place now thoroughly enjoying how much quieter it is since I’m no longer five feet from the damn airport and Air Force Reserve base. Yes, no more jet takeoffs shaking the walls at 7am in the fucking morning! I have a beautiful mountain view in the shadow of “A” Mountain as it’s known locally or Sentinel Park for anyone else. For non-Tucsonians it’s called “A” Mountain because starting in the early 1900s students from the University of Arizona constructed a giant 160 foot tall “A” on the peak which now gets repainted white every year by students and can be seen for miles around. No one probably cares about all this but whatevs.
Also while we were gone I submitted a couple of things for publication which I can’t give any details on yet as one is a secret unannounced project from Dark Chapter Press. As some of you may have seen I entered a contest through Freeditorial (which runs thru November with the winner announced on Thanksgiving) with an enormous 1st place prize that would keep me writing comfortably for several months easily. If you haven’t done so yet to vote all you have to do is download my story, Harvester of Sorrow (you can read more about it HERE if you wish). Don’t have a Kindle or other eReader? No problem, you can download it as a PDF! Many have asked me so to clear it up, Freeditorial tracks IP Addresses so no one can cheat downloading their own work a million times though you can download it to as many devices as you want. For anyone who doesn’t know bc we’re not all IT nerds that means a download using your home WiFi will count once, even if you download it on multiple computers, your WiFi is where your IP Address is generated. It will count as an additional download for instance if you download it to your phone as long as you aren’t connected to your home WiFi. Hopefully that is clear enough but if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask me since I have had several people ask me about multiple downloads. I’m happy to say my story has now been downloaded 126 times which personally I think is fucking awesome and also an even bigger thank you to those who have given me feedback on it as well. You guys are awesome! Now along with the contest I have decided to try something called Thunderclap to help promote it. If you downloaded Harvester of Sorrow and enjoyed it I would appreciate if you’d support my Thunderclap campaign to help spread it further. It’s quick and painless I promise. You can “support” my campaign with your Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr accounts. When you support my campaign all that happens is that, if my campaign is successful, Thunderclap will send out 1 Tweet or 1 Facebook/Tumblr post on all the supporters’ accounts on I believe May 31st, that’s it. They don’t tamper with your account or anything, they send my pre-prepared message once and that’s it. All I need is 100 supporters to make this happen and it will help me reach more horror loving fans so if everyone who has downloaded Harvester of Sorrow does this I’ll be over the goal. Again Thank You!
This isn’t all about me and Cult has been equally busy slinging bread, helping with the minor home improvements and something super exciting that I’ll let him tell you more about when the time is right but he’s working on a major project with one super awesome dude! I don’t even know all the details yet so I’ll let Cult spill that news when he’s ready but trust me it’s fucking awesome and I’m very proud of my partner! Now pertaining to our little ol’ site here you’ll be seeing some changes as well. For the longest time Cult and I have celebrated metal every Wednesday with our creation of Hump Day, Metal Day! Now that won’t really change and I’ll still post the bulk of our metal reviews on that day but since right now we are extraordinarily behind on both the music we’ve been sent and what we’ve discovered on our own you’ll be seeing metal reviews pop up on other days as well. I doubt anyone will really be upset by that. Again Hump Day, Metal Day isn’t going anywhere but as of right now I have 280+ albums I’m behind on after our hiatus. Yeah, we receive that much! Cult and I plan to bring you some really quick reviews to get caught up then we’ll share more in depth thoughts on the releases we really enjoyed of which there are several and that’s only speaking for myself. It’s already been a great year for metal and there were some kickass releases while we were away so be patient and we’ll share all we can.
Also while we were away some of my Twitter friends may have thought I crawled into a deep dark hole to disappear and I apologize for my lack of tweeting but I haven’t been absent from social media. I have developed several connections with fellow writers through Facebook and you will see some guest posts from me on other sites due to those awesome connections. One of those connections is the awesome Nev Murray of Confessions of a Reviewer. Nev has enjoyed my contributions to Kill For A Copy and recently to KIDS and not long ago we struck up a conversation through Facebook and have become quite friendly. Last week Nev put out a call for contributions to his site which I answered so when that gets posted I’ll let everyone know. It’s for a segment he calls Confessions of My Past, Present & Future which was a lot of fun to do and will give you a little insight into me. Speaking of that I have to give a shout out to my fellow writing friend Matt Hickman who had some nice things to say about me in his “Confession” you can check out HERE. I am extremely humbled receiving praise from people I like and respect so thank you Matt and Nev!
We have so much we’ll be bringing your way and news to share as we’re able, it honestly amazes me at times. So yes, we were gone but our asses were busy! Recently I ran an idea by my partner which he was stoked about and hopefully all of you will be as well but it’ll take me a little time to get it put together before I can announce it publicly. We will have some upcoming artist spotlights and I apologize to the artists I’ve had on hold for some time but I was pretty discombobulated for the last several weeks preparing to move then moving. Also apologies to our PR partners for not getting to the material you’ve sent us but we will. Also while we were away some of our horror movie making friends have been busy so we’ll have some cool news there. Plus a huge shout out to Jim Rothman and crew for reaching their Kickstarter goal so that Scythe will become a horror movie reality! Hopefully we were able to help a little! I did see that activity on the site has been pretty steady even in our absence so for those who are new to us click around and see all of our awesome Scribbles and for those who have been visiting us for a long time we’ll have a bunch of new stuff coming your way very soon! I do have a lot going on off-site so you may not see me posting daily but believe me Cult & I are always busy and we’ll be bringing plenty of Horror, Metal and more your way hopefully long into the future! The bottom line is…
We’re back with new Scribbles bitches!
