Welcome metalheads! Well kids the moment you’ve been waiting for is almost here… A New SSSSLLLLLAAAAAYYYYYEEEEERRRRRR album! The first single I heard didn’t have my hopes up but now Slayer have Cast The First Stone!
Well metalheads the new Slayer album Repentless will be unleashed on us in just over a week, are you excited? Cult & I are huge Slayer fans but honestly, the first track I heard When The Stillness Comes didn’t really have me all that excited since it sounded very much like a reworking of South of Heaven. Also if I’m being honest I missed the release of the title track, Repentless, so I can’t say if I liked it or not since I still haven’t listened to it. Now here we are a little over a week away from the album release and we get another early release, Cast The First Stone. My initial thought is that once again it sounds like South of Heaven era Slayer. I don’t think of that as a bad thing necessarily as South of Heaven is a favorite of mine. I’ve listened to Cast The First Stone a couple of times now and what I find I like best about it is Paul Bostaph’s drum work which is excellent. Maybe it’s because Bostaph was in Slayer during South of Heaven and Seasons In The Abyss but I can’t help thinking of those albums in hearing this new version of Slayer minus the late great Jeff Hanneman. This is the first track I’ve heard that Gary Holt’s playing really sticks out to me as well which is very much a good thing. In the end where When The Stillness Comes fell flat for me, this new track is pretty fuckin’ awesome and has me at least curious to now hear the full album. Take a listen to Cast The First Stone and see what you think.
Repentless drops on September 11th via Nuclear Blast. You can get Slayer news just about anywhere but if for some reason you’re not already you can follow them on Facebook and Twitter to stay up on the latest.
