Welcome Metalheads! It’s Hump Day Metal Day once again and we have a ton of metal all lined up for you! Lucky you! This is a quickie, sort of, courtesy of some awesome dudes!
Over the last couple weeks I’ve been doing my best to catch up on the awesome MetalHeads Podcast run by George and Buke at Metal Disciple. These are a couple of metal dudes not unlike Cult and I, in that none of us are 20 anymore. They’re huge MetalHeads just like us who just fucking get it. What do I mean by that? I mean they love all metal and aren’t stuck on the retarded notion that you can only be into one specific niche genre or that it has to be all metal all the time or you’re not a metalhead somehow. Those are the arguments we all had in our youth which were stupid then (stop it kids!) and are really just pointless now. When you’re in high school admitting that you like something like say The White Stripes while wearing a Cannibal Corpse shirt just might get you ostracized from your little click so you keep that shit on the down low. However, after high school (sorry to break it to ya kids but that’ll be the MAJORITY OF YOUR FUCKING LIFE!) there is no little dumbass click to be ostracized from so if it sounds good to you listen to that shit! These days when someone asks me what kind of music I like the easy answer is to say metal but its incomplete since as I’ve stated before my personal collection has a little of everything from Johnny Cash to Cannibal Corpse. The truth is whatever I’m listening to at any given moment has more to do with whatever mood I’m in than anything else. Over the last about 5 years or so I’ve leaned heavily towards doom from old school Sleep to newcomers Pallbearer because that’s what I like to listen to while I write but I listen to a little of everything again based on my mood. So why am I prattling on?
As I said I’ve been catching up on George and Buke’s MetalHeads Podcast which is really great. I’ve listened to some podcasts that are just boring as shit and that definitely isn’t these guys. For you metal lovers you can’t really go wrong with the Metalsucks Podcast (new one up every Monday) with Chuck & Godless as well, a couple more guys our age that just get it. Anyway we’ve struck up a bit of friendship with George and Buke just being kindred metal spirits so inevitably amongst metalheads comes the “music exchange” or as I prefer to call it… the “Have You Heard of These Guys Game.” We’ve all done it and will continue to every time we meet such kindred spirits. For the podcast George & Buke generally do a top 3 list of some sort based on listener suggestions or what they come up with themselves which is always interesting. Since I was in the mood for some doom and needed a new suggestion I proposed a top 3 doom list which sparked a bit of a discussion which led to Buke suggesting one of his favorites, Ahab’s The Giant. Ahab was a new one to me so it took me all of about 30 seconds to look it up and hit play. Now I could have done a review of this album because it is fucking awesome but instead I thought I’d just use it as an opportunity to talk up a couple of fellow metalheads doing their part to share their love of metal with the world as Cult & I attempt to do here as well. As for Ahab’s The Giant, it is an epic doom album that definitely makes you feel like you’re out in the middle of an ocean somewhere with everything I love about doom from the haunting clean vox to the growled harsh vox that sound like Davey Jones’ locker finally opened unleashing the sound of hell. It’ll definitely get added to my writing playlist so thank you so much Buke! So listen to the album and stay tuned to the MetalHeads Podcast with George and Buke for more awesome metal!
Feel free to bug the hell out of George and Buke on social media via their Facebook or Twitter pages, trust me they don’t bite. Also, more importantly, they don’t suck so check out the MetalHeads Podcast and Metal Disciple for tons of awesome metal. Thanks again Buke for the awesome Ahab suggestion!
