Welcome metalheads! I didn’t have time to get to this one last week but hey, we have the internet so it never goes away until the apocalypse strikes. Hump Day Metal Day goes hard rock for a Feind favorite, Royal Thunder!
Royal Thunder kind of came out of nowhere for me a couple of years ago with their debut album CVI which I have now spun more times than I can count. If you’re looking for some awesome doomy retro 70s stoner rock with a southern groove you can do far worse than CVI. On Crooked Doors RT have gone more in a hard rock direction while maintaining the vibe they created on CVI but as with most bands their debut was cultivated over the course of a few years as they found their voice. Crooked Doors has the potential to be extremely commercially successful as it’s just a little more accessible for a mainstream audience. A lot of that has to do with bassist/vocalist Mlny Parsonz whose voice is just beautiful. Feminine enough to sound “pretty” in the parts that call for that but also gravelly enough to fit metal nicely. The entire album is awesome but Time Machine is definitely a stand out track so check out the video for that below then scroll down to see where you can order this excellent album as well as listen to it.
Royal Thunder’s second awesome album Crooked Doors is available now and you can pick up yours via Relapse Records if somehow you haven’t yet or you can also listen to it on Bandcamp. Be sure to stay up on all the band’s latest news and tour dates by following them on Facebook and Twitter.
