Welcome Metalheads! Feind has another Fast Five all ready and metalheads should be happy this week as it seems my media player got stuck on awesome for a bit. You should enjoy this one!

Sometimes I hit play and a string of “skip overs” pop up but wow did I ever get lucky this week! I hit play and it was just a string of awesome for several songs so I actually tossed in a couple bonus tunes for you. Feel free to play along and tell me the first five that pop up for you in the comments.
Now… here… we… go…

Sepultura – Dead Embryonic Cells
from Arise
Picture
This was actually the 1st CD I ever bought. I was about 18 I think when I finally bought a CD player but more than that I bought my first giant stereo which I wish I still had but through many years of abuse and innumerable moves it died. Anyway DEC is one of my favorite tracks off this album and one of my fav Sepultura songs period. From the opening that sounds like an industrial press of some kind then breaking into some of the best thrash riffs in all of thrash. Sepultura helped keep metal going during the lull that was the 90s. Just an excellent track from one of my favorite bands at least until Max left.

Fear Factory – Archetype from Archetype
Picture
A couple week’s ago my Fast Five brought my first album by Machine Head who I discovered about the same time as Fear Factory after seeing them on Ozzfest. Archetype was the first album after FF guitar guru Dino left the band after a nasty fallout with lead man Burton C Bell. What came out was an angry album with several little slams at Dino and a lot of people hated on this album pretty bad at the time. Personally I think it was pretty damn good though admittedly not my favorite but I’m kind of a big FF fan so the first four albums or so will always be my fav. Thankfully amends have been made and as far as I know a new FF album is presently in the works.

Black Sabbath – Solitude
from Master of Reality
Picture
All Hail the Mighty Sabbath! I was young when I first heard and got into Sabbath but my first listen was with Ronnie James Dio (RIP) at the helm. I later learned that Ozzy was their first so you’ll have to forgive me, I was only like 7 or 8 yrs old at the time. We all gotta start somewhere. This one is honestly one of my all-time favorite Sabbath songs and one that I find is pretty much overlooked when it comes to all the great songs Sabbath have put out over the years. This is a sweet and somber song and one I listen to often. When people think of Sabbath ballads we all think of Changes but while I love that song for my money Solitude is better but that’s just my personal taste.

In Flames – Touch of Red
from Soundtrack To Your Escape
Picture
There may not be a band that gets hated on more than In Flames for changing their sound from one of the bands there at the beginning of creating the Gothenburg death and melo-death metal scene. Sometimes metalheads are the epitome of the lack of ability to welcome change. From the “Mastodon sucks after Remission” crowd to the mountain of hate that gets directed at In Flames and from their early death metal classics like Clayman they have changed their sound drastically but other than their last album which I didn’t care for I like the old and the new. So hopefully you like this one too as its pretty indicative of the change they made from earlier material.

Chimaira – Coming Alive from The Infection
Picture
Fuck Yes! You should know Chimaira has become one of my favorites (sadly I think we’ll never see them again) over the last several years. The Infection is one of their best complete albums and Coming Alive is just a brutal pummeling track that should have you banging your damn head already. I think Chimaira is done as everyone quit the band but I hope main man Mark Hunter lands somewhere soon as I’m a fan of his writing as well as his brutal vocal delivery.

Ok now as I said my shuffle got stuck on awesome so I have a couple bonus tracks for you as I just didn’t want to stop and hopefully you feel the same.
Lollipop Lust Kill – Bury You
from My So Called Knife
Picture
“This moment is the rest of your life… I’m comin at ya with a kitchen knife!” How can you not love an opening line like that then from that whispered opening Bury You breaks out into metal awesome. I put this album in my “Anytime Albums” list and this song is one of the reasons why. It sucks that LLK disbanded after this one fucking awesome album but that’s how it goes. This album is now 13 years old and still remains in heavy rotation for me so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

White Zombie – Thunder Kiss ’65
from La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume 1
Picture
I had to drop this in here when it popped up next. I’m an unashamed Rob Zombie fan and for me it all started with this song and Black Sunshine from this same album. I can’t help singing along every single time I hear it and as fucked up as the lyrics are I know every damn word no matter how long it’s been since I’ve heard it. I made it my mission to get all my friends at the time into this album and I can remember many booze fueled nights driving around with my best friend blasting this album and singing along. Great fucking memories. Come on how can you not love a verse like,“Rollin like a supersonic/Another fool that gets down on it/Pig sweat a million miles/I got a heart atomic style/Make it look easy, that’s a what I said/Blast of silence explodes in my head!” Right on Mr Zombie!

Picture
A stinker popped up next which I skipped over ending this awesome streak of some of my favorites all in a row so finally I’ll stop here. Hopefully you all enjoyed that, I most certainly did. So until Hump Day Metal Day returns next week it’s time to end this trip along my shuffle button… FEIND OUT!
