from Crooked Doors
from VII: Sturm Und Drang
from Win Hands Down
Welcome metalheads! Due to my current technical difficulties ie Old Man Feind’s laptop is in it’s death throes forcing me to work on a borrowed one, I do not have my entire music collection at my disposal. This is why there was no Fast Five last week. I believe I may have come up with a decent work around so let’s see how this goes today!
Well Scribbler fans it looks like at any given moment Old Man Feind’s laptop may very well shutdown never to start again. Luckily thanks to an uber Samaritan that saved the day with the laptop I’m tapping away at the keys of at this very moment I am able to get back somewhat to normal. I was able to finally cram a shit ton of metal into today that’s for sure. The hard part is ending the day by hitting the shuffle button on my media player since I have not transferred all of my music yet and truly I can’t as this is not my own computer. Technology can be a bitch sometimes. So instead of my usual random chance tunes I thought instead I’d share five awesome tunes that I found myself spinning numerous times lately aside from some of the new tunes I’ve already shared previously today. In keeping with how I write this segment I will share a few of my random thoughts with you as these songs play and that’s it. So this is what Old Man Feind has had stuck in his head recently, Enjoy!
Royal Thunder – One Day
from Crooked Doors
If you somehow haven’t heard of Royal Thunder yet you need to fix that ASAP! Their debut album CVI was awesome and their newest, Crooked Doors, while drifting more to the hard rock side of things is no less awesome for that fact. Honestly, when I first listened to Crooked Doors months ago when it first came out I was like “eh, good but it doesn’t hook me like CVI” well in the last couple of weeks I can’t stop listening to this bad boy. Sometimes things strike you differently at different times it’s just how shit works. I shit you not I literally listened to One Day just about all day one day (no pun intended) just last week so I guess you could say this one has its hooks thoroughly embedded in me now. Obviously I love it so hopefully you do too!
Lamb of God – Overlord
from VII: Sturm Und Drang
Randy Blythe doing clean vocals? Fuckin’ A Right! I was thoroughly in LoG’s camp for a few albums but honestly their last two maybe three albums had just gotten a bit stale to me. If you don’t know about all the turmoil of the last couple years then you’re probably not a fan and probably not visiting this website anyway so I won’t go into it. Not only does it look like that experience forced Blythe to mature in ways he probably never thought possible but I’ve come to appreciate him more as an artist due to his reaction to his experience or in other words it made me a bigger fan whether I like any of the music or not. I’ve liked what I’ve heard from Sturm Und Drang thus far and Overlord is the true highlight for me. I know the entire album doesn’t sound like this but I’d be perfectly happy if it did. I know the album is out now and hopefully I’ll have a copy soon and get a review done for you. However, I do love this song and have been spinning it a bunch lately.
Armored Saint – Win Hands Down
from Win Hands Down
Sometimes it doesn’t matter what you call a band or song; metal, hard rock or what the fuck ever it just fucking rocks and that’s Win Hands Down for me. If you know me you know I prefer John Bush Anthrax to Joey Belladonna-thrax so I’m glad Bush is back making kick ass rock songs again. Personally I’m no fan of Anthrax with Belladonna back in the fold and I was happy when he left the first time not because I don’t like Belladonna era Anthrax but there was only so far Joey could go vocally and I find John Bush to just be more talented period, feel free to disagree it’s just my humble opinion. Anyway since Scott Ian and the boys thoroughly fucked Bush over like a couple of times I’m glad he’s back making some kickass jams once again. I have this album and I can tell you it just rocks so pick it up yourself and rock the fuck out!
Chelsea Wolfe – After The Fall
I’m a huge fan of Chelsea Wolfe ever since I first discovered her a few years ago (Thanx MetalSucks!). Several tracks from her upcoming album, Abyss available August 7th via Sargent House, have been put up on Soundcloud and I honestly think it may be her best album yet. That’s saying something since I really do enjoy what she has done so far. I’ve heard nearly half the album so far and I can tell you it’s just damn good! I’ve been spinning After The Fall quite a lot recently but honestly I’ve been spinning all her new stuff a lot as of late. I can’t wait to get her new album and while yes, I know it isn’t “metal” it is definitely dark and heavy. I fuckin’ love it that’s for sure.
Khemmis – Torn Asunder
This one (as well as the rest of the album) I’ve been spinning just a ton ever since I first heard of Khemmis thanks to Emperor Rhombus at MetalSucks back in June. I need to review this album for the site so I can share how awesome it is with all of you but it seems I just haven’t gotten to it along with about a dozen other albums I’ve been trying desperately to get to recently but such is life. I will get to it eventually and I encourage any doom lovers to look into this one immediately because it is just fantastic. These guys may be from Denver but they play doom torn from the icy tundra of Scandinavia where most of our best doom comes from. Spin this one once, twice or a thousand times as I have!
So this is what I came up with metalheads I certainly hoped you enjoyed it. My laptop isn’t completely dead so until I am able to get it fixed right I’ll be doing Fast Five in this manner. Hell, who knows maybe I’ll enjoy this more and end up changing permanently but time will tell. For now party on, bang your head and listen to metal fucking loud… FEIND OUT!!
