Welcome Scribbler fans! Well Kevon made us sweat in Week One but there is much to look forward to as the competition heats up!
Well fans it was a rough start for our friend Kevon Ward in the Season 9 premiere of Face Off but none of the contestants had it easy. Season 9 kicked right off with the elimination challenge and it was a doozy. Hopefully you tuned in and saw how it all played out as there were some awesome creations on display. It looks like the competition is stiff this season and there will be few breaks for anyone. The first task was to create an animal and mineral combination creature and I think Kevon would tell you he learned a big lesson in week one. The Hans went big and almost went home as his creation was maybe a little too ambitious given the extreme time constraints of the competition. Personally I thought Kevon’s idea was awesome but as can happen in a competition like this things don’t always turn out the way you want and there’s no extra time to correct mistakes or put on all the finishing touches that can turn the mundane to pure awesome. Week one displayed for me what is the real flaw of the Face Off competition and I’m not just saying this because Kevon faced elimination in the premiere. Sometimes the time constraint itself can eliminate a great artist because on Face Off if you have any problems, ie a broken mold or design flaw, there is no time to rethink a design or redo a mold where in real life you would have that time. Yes, FX artists face deadlines all the time so time is always an issue but in the real world if something isn’t finished exactly on time it isn’t generally the end of the world, you can finish properly where on Face Off there is no such luxury. Hopefully Kevon doesn’t make us sweat it out again this week but one thing is for certain The Scribblers will be tuning in to see what awesome creation Kevon comes up with this week. Episode 2 of Face Off is on SyFy tonight (check your local listings) so tune in with us and watch Kevon kick some FX ass!
