Welcome Scribbler Metalheads! Seems Old Man Feind has one on his list that hasn't gotten nearly the love it deserves. I think I've only seen this one on maybe one or two year end lists so far and that's a damn shame because not only is it damn good but to me it's Ringworm's best album to date.
Ringworm for most of their 20+ year career have been more of a hardcore band so as such have been a little off my radar since hardcore for more than a song or two, in general, isn't my thing. That's not a knock on Ringworm as there are plenty of hardcore fans out there so I don't think I was missed. However, on their latest, Hammer of the Witch, the legendary metallic hardcore Clevelanders add a little thrash and some groove in the mix which for me personally makes it the best album of their career. The entire album is just a brutal auditory assault from start to finish picking you up and shaking you violently while screaming in your face. Since it's still strongly hardcore at its core (all pun intended!) it didn't quite make it into my Top 15, which I'll drop here next week, but that doesn't take anything away from how brutally awesome Hammer of the Witch is. We all have our own personal taste so hopefully if this one wasn't on your list you can at least enjoy the shit out of one of the best albums of the year that you may have missed. Ringworm haven't put out any singles/vids from the album but you can buy and listen to the entire Deluxe Version below. The standout tracks for me are Psychic Vampire, One Of Us Is Going To Have To Die and the title track, Hammer of the Witch.
Buy the album above on bandcamp via Relapse Records then stay up to date on all of Ringworm's latest on Facebook and/or Twitter. Also just for fun here's some pro-shot live footage of the band as well!
