Back in ’94 the internet was still just a fledgling operation but metalheads like me got a weekly dose of metal on Friday nights via MTV when they still actually played music videos. Every Friday night I tuned into Headbanger’s Ball with Rikki Rachtman which is where I first heard and saw I’m Broken, the first single off Far Beyond Driven. Needless to say I was Far Beyond Driven to pick this album up the second I could! Yes, all pun intended!
It was a sad day when the metal world lost Dimebag on December 8, 2004 which is the day after this Scribbler’s birthday, not the b-day gift I was hoping for in a year that personally was probably the worst of my life. Dime was one of the true greats and went out of his way to show not only fans that he appreciated them but helped along anyone who cared to learn from him. Dime was one of those true originals that never lost his “down to earth” personality no matter how famous he got or how rich he got, something many could truly learn from.
