Like a slobbering fanboy I approached a few members of the band after they were through and told them my impressions, which admittedly took me a while to reach. I offered the premise that they also sounded much like vintage Terrorizer (the final song was a dead ringer for After War Obliteration in my opinion) I was answered by a huge shit eating grin and a very humble… well thanx man! This is an act I will keeping tabs on!
and why the hell not!
Suffice it to say this isn’t ‘glam rock’ (no headbands or leggings though I did spot a fluffy frog on the microphone) nor is it traditional heavy metal (there was a definite lack of denim vests in the performing ensemble) but rather a pleasing mix of extreme genres (damn, I said it!) with one element at the very forefront a performance and style that didn’t let up, 110% effort from all involved resulting in a show that alone was worth the price of admission. Aha, I hear some say, but the show was free! True but I’m sure I talk for both Scribblers here when I state that Aleister are a band we would gladly pay to see (again) and an act we would whole-heartedly recommend to any wishing to catch the best that the local Tucson scene has to offer.
A great night was had by all, a fantastic gathering of friendly folks (happy to see both ladies and gents supporting the scene) and an excellent display of what the local (metal) scene has to offer. To be brutally honest this event offered an intimacy rarely found in larger shows showcasing acts who impressed the hell outta’ me, each in their own way sharing their talents within their own ‘brand’ of metal.
