Welcome Walking Dead lovin' Scribbler Fans! The Walking Dead returned with Season 5's opener last night and boy, was it a good one! Some questions were answered but many more remain and a few more were added to the list. I'll keep this as spoiler free as possible for those of you that haven't watched yet but seriously! Go watch The Walking Dead!
The Walking Dead Season 5 kicked off with a bang literally! Season 4 ended with many questions left unanswered and Season 5 begins by answering only a few of them. When our friendly neighborhood band of friends come to Terminus they seem to be welcomed with open arms into a new sanctuary for the zombie apocalypse survivors. But did you notice the BBQ grill with tasty steaks waiting for our visitors? Now, did you happen to see any cows? Just what is that meat? Well it doesn't take Rick and the boys long to find out that they are the cattle and those succulent steaks are... yup, you guessed it, the people of Terminus have resorted to cannibalism for survival. The real surprise is that it took 5 seasons to find people who had. Think about it, food and water are the most precious commodities in the apocalypse so would our favorite band of survivors escape or are they about to end up as dinner?
I do have to mention waiting to watch The Walking Dead was killing me last night. I love the show having watched from the beginning but since I do not have cable I had to wait for the show to be posted where I watch my TV shows which usually is a couple hours after shows air. In the meantime my lovely lady fiend did watch and delighted in tormenting me by telling me how awesome the opener was. Now Feind has a little problem of being a spoiler. I've done it so many times that my lady won't even tell me she's watching something lest I let slip a detail as I have far too many times. I have tried to quell my spoiling ways but the damage has been done. So just to screw with me as much as humanly possible my lady delighted in hyping the season opener as she was able to watch it a couple hours before me. She didn't drop any major spoilers on me other than to tell me, "all I can say is Soylent Green." Now that may go over the head of many but I know exactly what Soylent Green is damn it! But this wasn't a major spoiler as I did notice in Season 4's finale that Rick & Co were offered steaks off the BBQ though I didn't see any cows anywhere. Just what could that meat be? I'll almost admit viewing the episode that it really made me want a fat, juicy steak! Yes, I have been called a sick individual and I don't care. I could live on steak and you can bet your ass if I find myself starving in the midst of a zombie apocalypse I would not hesitate to have you for dinner!
Another question left open at the end of Season 4 was, will Carol & Tyreese make it to Terminus too? And will Rick and Carl ever be reunited with Judith? As the opener begins after we find out what the people of Terminus are doing we see Carol & Tyreese with baby Judith in tow. We see Carol continues to do anything and everything she has to in order to survive while Tyreese resorts to being a giant pussy. Seriously, this dude should be badass but continues to be "overwhelmed" by the situation. Get over it man! It's the zombie apocalypse for fuck's sake! The trio stumble on a herd of walkers then a scout from Terminus. Carol shows she has learned through her ordeals refusing to trust that Terminus is a safe haven for survivors. While Carol goes off to be completely badass she leaves Tyreese to guard their Terminus prisoner and baby Judith. So will Tyreese realize he's a huge MFer and snap out of his pussy ways or will he continue to snivel and whine like a bitch about not wanting to kill anyone including walkers? While Carol goes to investigate Terminus you find out though for more than a moment I wanted to reach through my TV screen and smack some sense into Tyreese!
Carol learns from their Terminus prisoner that at the very least Rick, Michonne & Carl are at Terminus somewhere though he doesn't divulge to her all of their prisoners. With a box of explosive goodies from the prisoner Carol wastes no time blasting her way into Terminus letting the walkers do most of the dirty work while she slips in among them to find Rick & Co. Meanwhile Rick, Darryl, Carl and Glenn manage to not become dinner and in no time show what Rick ended Season 4 with, They aren't to be fucked with! Of course those of us that have watched from the beginning know this but the battle of Terminus is on! Carol has unleashed a zombie herd into Terminus as a distraction so Rick & crew must battle through walkers and Terminus scum to make it back to the railcar holding the rest of our merry band of survivors. Will they manage to reunite with the outcast Carol or like The Walking Dead writers like to do, will they miss each other like ships passing in the night never knowing the other is even there?
After an entire season (Season 4) of separation the group is almost fully reunited in Terminus but while Season 5 reunites most of our core group there still remain unanswered questions. Rick and Carl finally find out that baby Judith is alive as they are finally reunited. Tyreese manages to stop being a pussy for 5 minutes to save Judith and destroy the Terminus prisoner with his bare hands but other questions go unanswered in the Season 5 opener. For instance, where exactly is Beth and what happened to her? Who took her since it wasn't people from Terminus or from the ragged band that Darryl had hooked up with last season? Then there's the bigger question of, will the group be able to make it to Washington, D.C. for mullet man to work on the possible cure? Will fan favorite Darryl finally hook up with Carol? (I don't really care about this one but it is a question some are thinking.) Then new questions are added like will Morgan, who appears at the end of the opener, hook up with Rick & crew or will he end up with whoever took Beth or something else even? What is the symbol Morgan finds carved in the tree and who in the hell carved it? We have to assume that it wasn't from Rick's group since we did not see who carved? Will anyone from Terminus survive and seek revenge? Is anyone left from the group the people of Terminus had to battle to take back Terminus before Rick & crew showed up? Will we see the crazy long haired giant Rick released in Terminus again? Who the hell is he? We didn't actually see him die so we have to assume he could pop up again. And then there is the biggest question of all... Who is going to die this season on The Walking Dead? We know some main characters will, they always do so who's it gonna be this year? All I can tell you is this Scribbler will be tuned in each week attempting to find out.
We may not know who's going to die this year but we do know two things: 1) At least one main character will die and 2) It won't be Darryl. Normally there are no safe characters in The Walking Dead so you shouldn't get to attached to someone because they could end up as a zombie meal at any time but I think the show's writers, producers, etc are smart enough to know killing off Darryl would have people rioting in the streets. I do have to say that while my lady has dubbed me the Spoiler King even I have to stay off all social media until after I'm able to see the show. Seriously I know live tweeting can be fun but you can do it spoiler free or you can at least try as I have here. There's a lot you can say without giving things away but I'm no one to lecture. Anyway I'll be tuning in every Sunday night and bringing you my thoughts every Monday or Tuesday as Spoiler Free as I can.
So what do you think Scribbler fans? Are you tuning into TWD every week like Feind is? Any predictions on Season 5?
