Welcome TWD fans! Only one more week to go and it’s all over! Best just keep your head down and Keep Walking…
The Walking Dead
Season 5 Episode 15
*This recap/review is intended for those who have already watched. If you saved it for later you have been warned!
Damn! What a show again this week! Last week was a show full of death with the loss of Aiden and poor Noah so this week we got the fall out plus the Rick vs Pete showdown! The episode is called “Try” which has to be a shortened version of “Try Not To Kill All These Weak Ass Ignorant Alexandrians” but it could’ve been called “Rick’s Group Deals With PTSD” or my personal choice “Dead Bodies Everywhere!” Yes, there was just walker killin aplenty in this episode with a couple from Aaron & Daryl on the road and, of course, Sasha in the midst of just losin’ her damn mind. So at least a theme song for this episode is pretty easy. Dear AMC and The Walking Dead team, Feind is available to put together your soundtracks for you and I work cheap! Though I do have to say nice job slipping in a little Nine Inch Nails but I’d like to know who slipped that in there since we saw in the last episode that dumbass Aiden was jamming techno for his road mix with no indication that he was cool enough to like NIN… just sayin.
So moving on to the show itself. Deanna, Reg and Spencer are mourning the loss of Aiden (they should be celebrating, the guy was a dick, family or not) putting on his travel music CD at least ushering in some good music from Nine Inch Nails (the song is Somewhat Damaged from ‘99’s The Fragile). Lyrically the song is appropriate although again Aiden was much too lame to have this good of taste in music. Carol bakes a casserole for the grieving family as Jessie’s son, Sam, shows up probably fleeing another family fun night. Carol’s casserole is received about as well as a lump of coal on Christmas as Deanna is obviously still mulling over Father Gabriel’s warning coupled with her son’s death. Sasha is near utter breakdown territory and is it just my twisted mind or did anyone else think of Charles Whitman that fateful day in 1966? No, just me? Well then you people suck! HA! Then the final storyline of the night Aaron & Daryl spy someone’s campfire. Is it Morgan or is it someone less friendly? Will there be any answers tonight? Probably not since next week is sadly the season finale already. Damn time flies!
We all hate liars so up pops Nicholas with his wonderfully constructed bullshit which I don’t think really fools Deanna for a second but she is a bit blinded by grief. Deanna replaying Nicholas’ explanation is juxtaposed with Glenn relaying to Rick what actually went down and why he brought Nicholas back instead of beating him until there was nothing left but a blood splatter. It’s pretty easy to see if Rick had been in Glenn’s position he would’ve done just that. I fear Glenn’s days could be numbered as he suddenly seems to be the voice of reason, the moral compass and we know what has happened to every single character filling that role so far. If you learn only one thing from The Walking Dead learn that in the zombie apocalypse morality equals death. Snap out of it Glenn before it’s too late! Oh shit… the season finale is next week and you know we’re losing someone.
Just so there’s no confusion I despise men who abuse women or children, there is no lower form of scum in my personal opinion making hell far too good for them. In Rick’s place, with Carol informing him of even more of Pete & Jessie’s happy home, I don’t know if I could resist just walking over and beating the fucker to death without a single warning. It wasn’t so long ago that Rick had his complete breakdown and really seems to be teetering on the edge once again (especially by the end of this one). While there is obvious chemistry between Rick & Jessie it’s far too soon for him to have any real feelings for her. I think in Rick’s head she is the perfect fit to replace Laurie as the embodiment of mother and wife plus the fact that he sees himself as “the protector” places her neatly in the “damsel in distress” role. So WTF is up with the red balloons? At least they didn’t break out that awful 99 Luftballoons song, man I hate that song. Seriously though, WTF is up with the red balloon? Another unanswered question! Pete has the misfortune to walk by and how Rick doesn’t kill him right there I have no idea. Ok, yes I do because the only reason is we’re only 5 minutes into the damn show! So Pete… “Keep Walking” mother fucker!
Rosita finally gets more than two lines of dialogue! It’s my understanding that in the comics Rosita has a bigger role coming up but up to this point through about a season and a half she hasn’t been much more than an ample walker killer and Abraham’s fuck buddy. We still don’t get much as she and Michonne go looking for Sasha but ya gotta start somewhere. Then we learn that Deanna has known for some time that Pete beats Jessie but since he is their only doctor everyone has looked the other way like they would if this wasn’t the zombie apocalypse anyway because people are dicks like that. The scene is really only the set up for what comes later but does serve to make me dislike Deanna even more. No, I don’t trust the bitch. She is a politician after all, she’s gotta go in my opinion.
This episode needed some filler apparently so what better than young love? Anything honestly, but Carl is a young man with raging hormones so hello Enid! You may not have been Carl’s first choice for his first girlfriend but hey, you’re the only girl here! Lucky you! I didn’t know it was possible to laugh and vomit but I just did! Luckily we cut to Glenn giving Nicholas a friendly warning with his “you’re a fucking pussy” speech. I understand Glenn trying to man up but he also gave Nicholas a reason to want him dead. Can’t have everyone knowing he’s a fucking coward after all, he has an image to uphold! Glenn should have left him to the walkers because again there’s only one episode left and someone’s gotta die. Sorry Maggie looks like you may have one more death to deal with soon.
After a little more budding young romance, BARF!, it’s walker killin time! Rosita and Michonne finally catch up to crazy Sasha whose wasting a ton of ammo on walkers of little threat. The massacre in the woods is a lot of zombie killing fun but really a pointless exercise because as little Enid told Carl, “It’s their world we’re just living in it.” Then flash over to Aaron & Daryl on the hunt for whoever is out there *cough The Wolves cough* first coming across some walker parts and pieces then one tied to a tree. What the point of doing that is anyone’s guess and it certainly has our bosom buddies baffled (say that ten times fast!). No time to ponder it’s time to set up the showdown!
Rick confronts Jessie who gives the typical battered woman response, it’s sad really. She walks away but it’s eating Rick up and wait… another red balloon! WTF is up with the red balloons!?! We get no answer as Rick goes back inside attempting to reason with Jessie again. Learning Sam asked for a gun pushes her over the edge and who comes walking in with the world’s worst timing? That asshole Pete! It’s on! Yes, finally it’s fuckin on! Pete throws the first punch but it doesn’t take long for Rick to toss him through a window and it’s street fight time! The crowd gathers quickly and then there’s one of those fucking balloons again! WTF! Then Rick loses his mother bleeding mind going on a tirade about how Alexandria needs to be run his way. If Deanna had any doubt about exiling Rick it was wiped out with that declaration of stupidity (not that it’s actually stupid but he may as well just shouted “We’re takin over this town!”) which only ends with Michonne knocking him the fuck out. I tend to watch a few after shows to see what info I can glean from them and I was surprised to see some idiots thought Michonne merely threw a punch to knock Rick out after he had taken several from Pete that didn’t. Michonne had a pistol in her hands ya dummies! Fade to black, show’s over.
It’s pretty easy to see that Rick is about to be exiled from Alexandria which pits his entire group against the safe haven. Does anyone really think the Alexandrians stand a chance against Rick and his group? They have shown they are nothing more than weak cowards so all I can really hope is that it doesn’t get dragged out all that long. Am I the only one thinking Deanna will have to reluctantly let Rick back in and combine forces when the Wolves show up at the gates? I’ve seen some speculate that the “W” carved in walkers’ heads is really an “M” perhaps carved by Morgan but really?! You think Morgan could possibly mark so many and how exactly did he leave that mark on the pile of walkers outside the community where Noah’s parents lived? Yes, think about it. So who will die to end this season? I think Glenn is a pretty good candidate as again he has shown hope and been a moral voice which has bode ill for everyone else who has done so. But this is also The Walking Dead where no character is really safe except Daryl, of course. As bold as they have been in who they kill off they aren’t so stupid as to kill the most popular character ever. Everyone else (yes, including Rick) is expendable. One 90 minute episode left in the season so will Deanna regret exiling the mighty Rick Grimes? Will we find out where the hell Morgan has been? Will the Wolves show up at the gates of Alexandria? Will Glenn die? Will Carol take the Pete situation into her own ample hands? I saw a little sneak peek of Carol confronting Pete next week which has me excited for that possibility. Will we find out the meaning of those damn red balloons!?! All these questions and more to go unanswered leaving us to wonder for 6+ months until Season 6 begins! Damn you Walking Dead writers!!! Damn you to hell!!!!
*Oh and Greg Nicotero our grand master of killing off beloved TWD characters directed the finale so get ready it’s coming. Will it be just Glenn or more????
