Welcome Horror fans! The Scribblers found an interesting horror project that sounds like it'll have Troma's Lloyd Kaufman kicking himself for not thinking of it first. These young men need your help to make their sperm monster a reality...
So this is something new for us here at Thy Demons Be Scribblin but it never hurts to try new things and it isn't without reason. First as I've stated a few times we're little fish in big ol' internet ocean so we like to find other little fish to pool with as there is strength in numbers, at least in theory. Second we like to help out Indie Horror where we can because everyone has to start somewhere just like we are. Honestly sometimes we get flooded with requests as some of you may see as well with this Kickstarter or that Indiegogo campaign and if we're being honest (and we try our best to be) not all of them are worthy projects. Some are poorly conceived, some are great ideas with a lack of talent behind them and so on. Weeding through the good from the bad can seem like an impossible task so when I see something that I think is a good idea, has talent behind it and just needs a boost to come to fruition those are the projects I'd like to get behind. Drain Babies is such a project.
Now when you first hear someone say they want to make a movie about a sperm monster your first reaction should be "Cool." Followed by some juvenile thoughts as you laugh, shake your head and keep on walking or perhaps running away. But then what if you found out this was more than some juvenile stoner's "funny idea" but that it also has an award winning screenplay behind it and a couple of folks serious about making it right not just slapping something together. That's right their screenplay placed 3rd at the A Night of Horror Film Festival, was a Finalist in the Hollywood Screenplay Contest and a Semi-Finalist in the Story Pros Screenplay Contest. That takes it from the "Oh cool idea" joke to something serious that deserves your attention. The full idea reminds me of the awesome Troma film Poultrygeist with a sperm monster rather than alien zombie chickens. Now you know The Scribblers loved Poultrygeist so that's why we feel Drain Babies deserves your attention and perhaps a few dollars if you feel so inclined. Now rather than have me blabber on, here are the fine folks behind this project in their own words.
A big thank you to Luke Oberholtzer for bringing this project to our attention here. We wish these guys all the best and we'll keep you all updated on the progress hopefully from short film to feature film. If you'd like to help make this film a reality head over to their IndieGoGo campaign and toss them a few much appreciated dollars. Then keep up with all the latest on the project by giving them a big thumbs up on the Drain Babies Facebook page to help them spread the word on this awesome project.
